Are You Committed?
Commitment is the act of being serious about what you want. We stay committed to whatever it is we believe is the most important thing.
Someone said that, “The idea of the happy ending, is an avoidance of responsibility and commitment.” You don’t know what will happen 2 seconds from now, let alone 2 years from now. Nonetheless, as you go about your day, keep the vision of what you want in mind. Know that what you really really want, really really wants you too. When the going gets tough, the smart persevere!
A willingness to commit shows your strength of mind, confidence in judgment, faith in action. Being able to commit to something shows not only that you know what you want but that you choose to do what you want and that you are doing it in a way that is most pleasing to you, out of all the other ways you could have chosen to proceed.
“Since you have to do the things you have to do, be wise enough to do some of the things you want to do.”
- Malcolm Forbes
To commit to something is to be passionate about it — to the results if not to the process.
Now, don’t take this too commitment thing too seriously. Committing to something is easy when you know that you want it.
You commit to things all the time without a second thought. The word commitment seems to have some baggage of the anxiety kind. Any time you make a decision, or move your arm, or breathe, you’re choosing one thing over all others. No big deal. You unconsciously commit to sleeping in your bed, and to brushing your teeth every day. Easy stuff, and these commitments enhance how you live your life.
Conscious Commitment
By making a conscious choice, you take deliberate control of your life. Each small choice is a commitment to being true to what you really want. Excellent work.
When you decide, you unite your energies in one direction; you focus your attention on your desired result. You become a powerful magnet and point of attraction for the things to which you are paying attention. By concentrating your mind on something and feeling excited about it happening, you collapse the potential world into an actual world. In other words, you attract like particles of material where before there were only waves of unformed potential. The particles manifest by following the blueprint of your mind (according to the law of resonance aka the law of attraction), which is why exercising the power of concentration and developing the ability to focus on what you want, are essential to living the life you want. By commiting to something and deciding that you want it, you create something tangible where before there were infinite possibilities. Your choosing creates worlds.
Commitment is Key to Success
Obsession, passion, burning desire: how many times have you read of others’ successes, and learned that the shared threads among them all were Persistence and Commitment to a desired outcome? According to Napoleon Hill and other students of success, the answer is Every Time. People who get what they want, know what they want, and keep their attention on experiencing what they want.
You have to want it more than anything.
From my favourite dead guy, Goethe:
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.
