Like light concentrated on a single spot through a magnifying glass, you are more effective when you elect to focus on fewer things to greater effect. You are most effective when you focus on only one main goal or ideal.
(To illustrate: by writing that intro, had my single intent been to develop an original metaphor that conveys the power of concentration, this paragraph would have left a seriously potent impression in your mind. Instead, I intended to begin this entry on a light note. ;-p Please hold your groans.)

Let’s define ‘hard work’ as the total involvement in living your desired result. Hard work is a good thing in this context: total immersion in your desire means you are taking action for a reason, and the ultimate reason is to feel good. Why? Because feeling good is your internal feedback telling you you’re aligned with what you want.
A postive feedback loop results — as you feel good, you do more things that feel good, then you feel even better, are inspired to do more things in an uplifted state, etc.
Making money feels good. Choosing a way of making money that feels good, feels good. Being yourself feels good. Doing what you enjoy and what serves others in some beneficial way, feels good. Giving the finger to an aggressive driver on the freeway feels temporarily good, but it’s not truly satisfying in a sustainably good way. Okay, maybe it is. ;-p
Hard Work = Focused Effort
Focus on one thing. Let that one thing be the thing that you want, and take action knowing that you are progressively realizing your goal/intention/purpose/chosen definite chief aim.

Your actions are mindful when you know why you are doing what you are doing. Your intent shapes the results of your action. No matter what your current activity, you’ll find that as you hold the mental image of yourself enjoying your desired results, you are ensuring that each activity is purpose-driven and effective both practically and psychologically. You feel right with the world on all levels. I think that covers all the bases.
The hardest work becomes easy when you are focused on what you want. Some people intend, “This [stated desire] or something better now manifests in easy and graceful ways for the highest good of all,” as added peace of mind that their desires are congruent with the universe. Others skip the conscious affirmation and jump into their work guided by an intuitive knowing. There are many ways to feel good about what you are doing. Whatever works for you is the way to go.
All for One
When your attention is focused on one thing in this moment — be it to express yourself at all times, have a loving intimate relationship with your spouse, allow $100,000+ annual net income, create the most efficient hydrogen-powered vehicle, etc. — then all your efforts are harmoniously supporting your desired result. And your actions have more power behind them because they are all born out of one root; their cause is the mental focus on your desired result.
Get Clear About What You’re Wanting, By Living
As you experience yourself in the world and gather information about what you want, you develop the clarity to focus on your results.
Seeing yourself as you want to be, you will find more enthusiasm for what you’re doing because what you’re doing now holds meaning for you, and the thought of living the life circumstances you envision excites you.
When what you’re doing makes you come alive (and lose track of time), you know you’re on the right track. Sometimes it takes a bit of exploration to figure out what makes you feel good about life. That’s fodder for another blog….
Working Hard is Synonymous with Focusing on your Results
When you are working hard, what do you notice? Are your senses heightened? Are you in-the-zone?
You are absorbed by the work, completely focused on the task at hand, knowing exactly what needs to be done now and doing it well. No matter what happens, you are flexible in your methods and choose methods that align with your constitution. (As you can guess, your constitution is your individual expression and preferred way of being; your highest principles; you feel free and function your best when you live according to your constitution.)

Being fully involved in your task that is guided by the vision of your result which unifies all your activities, you have a master blueprint for successful living.

What drives you? What will drive you is what you love. Or what you fear; but why not keep your sights on where you are now and what you want? Thought is creative, literally, so best focus on what you want and take action in accordance with who you see yourself being. Take the action that occurs to you naturally to take.
Sometimes a good question I ask myself to get back on track is, “Am I having fun?” And then I make changes accordingly so that what I’m doing is fun. I either change what I’m doing, or change how I’m thinking about what I’m doing. It sounds simple yet it’s not always that simple to do. Well worth the hard work, though!
