Start It Now, Even If You’d Rather Sleep First

“A knowledge of the path cannot be substituted for putting one foot in front of the other.” – M. C. Richards
Begin it Now
If your annual goal is to trek alone somewhere in the Arctic, then by all means, begin it now. Of course, don’t head there this second without your food and warm clothes. But do begin the planning. Make the arrangements. Set the scene.
I’m talking about living your ideal, and preparing yourself for what you want by paving the way with thoughts and actions of positive expectation. Act like you know you’re getting it.
Make Your Vision Your Way of Life
The tongue-in-cheek shortcut to a life of success at [whatever] is simply to begin it now. Don’t wait for inspiration, for something outside of yourself to remind you that your vision for your life is non-negotiable.
Often, someone is successful merely (and not so merely, as the willingness to take action out of an inner, self-directed necessity and a view to what will be, is a rare trait) because he/she stopped talking about something and went ahead and did it. Nothing shows your confidence and positive expectation more than when you put your vision into motion by taking action now. Knowledge is potential power, but wisdom is real power — directing what you know to achieve some desired end. Use what you know!
How to Develop Ability? Be it. Do it.
Being is doing, and doing is being. Remember Forrest Gump? “Stupid is as stupid does.”
Therefore, the first way to develop ability is Application.
The second way to develop ability is to lay down a Challenge. In analyzing those individuals who have made a phenomenal success, we find that it was not the result of elaborate education, or of specialized training. On the contrary, most of these individuals had little formal education and none of them was trained for leadership. What is the secret behind such phenomenal success? These individuals had one quality in common–the daring ability to start something. They challenged their own ability. They dared to think for themselves. They determined to do something and to rely on their own. With confidence engendered by action, they drew on their own ability to do things others thought impossible. They did not know they could not do it, so they went ahead and did it.

Affirmations are the Map. Why Use a Map When You’re Already There?
Check out Hugh Hollowell’s concise post on taking charge of your life. I especially like this part:
I work for myself. I know that most do not, and many wish they did. I did not plan it, I did not set a goal, I did not make an affirmation which I would stand in front of a mirror and read aloud that “By the year 1994, I will be self employed“. I just did it.
Affirmations are useful as they refocus your attention on what you really want. But you have to believe that you can be, do and have what you want! The most powerful affirmation and display of belief is to act on what you want, knowing you will have it.
A Reminder Note from the Universe:
Just do it.
Everything you need to know, you know, and everything you need to have, you have. Everything!
Time and space is a primitive school. There are bigger challenges “out there”, bigger adventures, and lots more friends, but you gotta do what you gotta do, here and now. You gotta live the truths you’ve discovered, apply the principles, and never again think, “Why isn’t it working?”, “It’s hard.”, “I don’t know.”, because such thoughts are like hitting the replay button for whatever you’ve just been through.
Look ahead with your dreams in mind and give thanks, because you know exactly what to do.
Phew… feel better?
